Squirrel trouble.

About 8 years ago, Daniel and his friend Josh (Andrew's friend too) were building a pew for some lady friends of theirs that prayed together.  One of the them bought a one gallon jug of wood glue. I have used some on and off over the years.  The last time was about 3 weeks ago to fix one of the kitchen chairs.  I left it out on top of a box I had built to hold my collets for the lathe.

I went out this morning and noticed that my box was covered with glue.  a squirrel had chewed a hole in it, and of course it didn't chew the whole near the top.  The box had a slide in slide out lid which mean that on 3 sides the sides are higher than the lid.  The glue had puddled up about 1/2 inch on the lid and very little had actually flowed over the side.  Fortunately the glue was only partially dried.  It took me 20 minutes or so to scrape the glue off the top.  I spent another 15 minutes trying to scrape out of the groove, the glue that was holding the sliding lid in place.  I finally ended up breaking the lid in pieces and prying it out the best I could.  I still need to chisel out some of the residue and make a new lid.

I hate squirrels.

May the Lord bless you and keep you

I love you

  1. This means war! Next family reunion must be at the Boyd ranch, where we will impose our wrath on these devilish, tree climbing rodents!

  2. When I first started reading the title and blog, I thought one of three things was going to happen:

    1. A squirrel would end up glued to the chair
    or
    2. A squirrel would have fallen into the bucket of glue and...
    a. ...slowly dried to death.
    or
    b. ...got out of the bucket covered in glue, slowly trudged away, and finally dried to a halt.

But don't these squirrels always get away! Dad, it's time to break out the 30-06!

  3. I have a friend who trap squirrels and drops the whole trap in the swimming pool to drown the squirrels. They have siad traps at Tractor Supply.

However Andrews idea of target practice isn't so bad either.

  4. Breaking news. I captured what I assume was the offending squirrel in the shop in alive trap. Anna is concerned about killing pregnant squirrels int he spring time so she wouldn't let me shoot it. I took it to Lake Mills Park and released it there. I assume that is far enough that it will not come back. I plan to keep traps out all the time and relocate them somewhere else. When we get past the spring baby squirrel period in Anna's mind I will relocate them to the stew pot.
